Glasgow’s diners are spoilt for choice when it comes to Italian cuisine. One restaurant deserves a notable mention, however, for rising above the competition: Carters. The bar and restaurant combines slick, hotel-style service and decor with traditional Italian cuisine that wouldn’t taste out of place in Milan. The recipes may be distinctly Mediterranean, but the ingredients are sourced locally. Scottish fare coupled with Italian nous may not qualify as fusion cooking, but it certainly qualifies a formula that works a treat. There’s even space for a couple of Scottish staples on the menu. Fish and chips and steak pie may be familiar dishes, but for sheer freshness and flavour, Carters’ take on these classic meals warrants full pass marks. Curved booths, wooden flooring and elegant lighting convey a suitably sophisticated mood, granting diners an indication of the culinary experience that awaits. Take a glance at the menu and you’ll find such options as chicken Milanese and salmon pappardelle rubbing shoulders with carbonara, lasagne and risotto. Italians love their meat, and Carters has gone to town here. Carnivores will relish the restaurant’s offerings plucked from the grill and served sizzling with hand cut chips, portobello mushroom and onion rings. 28-day dry-aged steaks are juicy and tender, drizzled in a choice of sauces from pepper to Diane. The pizzas are light and crispy, just as proper Italian pizza should be, while a clutch of classic burgers also warrant consideration. Carters isn’t just an upmarket restaurant of course: it’s also a chic contemporary bar, all gleaming chrome, marble and polished wood. Take your pick from a wide range of craft beers, ales, gin, wine, prosecco and champagne. Alternatively, peruse the cocktail menu before treating yourself to a Top Cat Mojito or The Busby Bramble, made with Edinburgh Dry Gin.

Undoubtedly the best steak i have had in Uk. Rib on bone and angus ribeye both perfectly cut and cooked to medium. Very juicy. Definitely recommend. And the service was top notch. Special mention to Steven for explaining everything in the menu and helping us decide. Very good value for money as well!
